Is a Franchise right for me?

May 18th, 2012

Part 3 from our recent franchise webinar featuring Nick Strong of Select Your Franchise. In this episode Nick addresses the question ‘Is a franchise right for me?’. Excerpt: "The great news is for anyone that’s thinking about managing that risk and thinking about going into franchising, is that consistently over the years, the NatWest and British Franchise Association national survey has revealed that over 90% of people that run franchises, the franchisees, actually run profitable businesses. So that’s one of the key reasons why the banks are so interested in franchising because there’s such high levels of success for those that take on and run a franchise business." The Always Best Care Area Representative opportunity was launched in January of 2009. Since then, we have awarded more than 30 exclusive regions to high level candidates who provide ongoing leadership to individual and multi-unit franchisees in their exclusive territories.

In addition to receiving a portion of the royalties and initial franchise fees, Area Representatives are provided with the established tools of the Always Best Care business model, including unprecedented access to ABC’s; marketing collateral, support system, brand name and extensive training with Always Best Care corporate coaches.

The ideal Area Representative

To qualify as an ABC Area Representative, you should have senior executive management experience in sales, marketing and operations or equivalent strategic skill sets. Additionally, we seek decisive, driven leaders with the desire to make a profound difference in the quality of people’s lives.

The Area Representative has the ability to see the big picture and join Always Best Care in a senior executive capacity with the exclusive opportunity to develop an area with a population in excess of 2.5 million. Typically this represents more than 10 franchise territories.

At Always Best Care, we know that franchising represents a tremendous opportunity to build your own business with the support, training and systems of an established company. We also recognize, though, that franchising may not be right for everyone. So we are providing the following excerpt from Is Franchising For You?, by Robert McIntosh, reprinted with permission.

Take almost any town in America today and on some street you will find a franchised business. So accepting has the American public been of franchising that financial experts refer to franchising as the “wave of the future.” For example, sales by franchised businesses now total more than one-third of the U.S. retail market. More than seven million people draw their paycheck from a franchised business. Over half a million franchised businesses dot the American landscape. More and more people are making the decision to get involved with a franchise company with the hope of pursuing the American dream of business ownership.

The word franchise literally means to be made free. This freedom is realized through the granting of rights from one party to another. We often refer to our right to vote as a “franchise.” Franchising in a business sense is a method of distributing a product or service. The franchisor owns the rights to the name or trademark and, for a fee, the franchisee receives the right to do business under the name. In most cases, the franchisor will also have a system for doing business that is transferred to the franchisee through an elaborate training program.

One of the reasons that many franchises have been so successful is that, in franchising, a business synergy is created. Franchisees brought together under one trademark can achieve things that as individual business people they could not do. Group advertising, buying power and the sharing of ideas are some examples of what can happen.

While there are many examples of successful franchises, buying a franchise is no guarantee of success. Each year there are failures, both on the part of franchisors and franchisees.

Each prospective Always Best Care franchisee goes through an informative step-by-step process that helps determine whether an ABC franchise is right for you, and also whether you are right for Always Best Care.

Teaching Dyslexic Students English | Business franchises

May 18th, 2012

Teaching Dyslexic Students English

While there is no “cure” for Dyslexia, the disability is one that is finally easy to recognize, and therefore, easier to overcome. Teachers are more aware of symptoms, and parents can finally rest assured that there are ways to teach their children English so that they can enjoy full, well-rounded lives.

The first thing to understand about Dyslexia in order to know how to teach a dyslexic student is that children may experience problems with visual or auditory sensations. Therefore, the best way for the child to learn English is by involving more of the child’s other senses while learning through touch and movement. This is known as multi-sensory learning. The way multi-sensory learning can work is by making learning projects practical and enjoyable.

What are some ways to do this? There are plenty. Here are only a few:

1. Use acronyms – These, along with funny sentences, rhyming sentences or sentences that bring a silly visual to one’s mind are great ways to improve the memory of grammatical rules, spelling, and other language difficulties.
2. Use Role-playing – Acting and miming make learning fun, as do other non-competitive games like spelling bingo, matching games, and puzzles. When children use these forms of learning, they learn a lot based on context, which makes what they learn much easier to remember.
3. Use color-coding – For both grammatical structures and spelling, color-coding can be used for flash cards, vocabulary sheets, or grammar sheets. This is a great way for children to distinguish separate ideas.
4. Use the body – When learning to spell, children can “draw” the letters in the air. When learning new vocabulary, practicing the spelling this way is good for motion memory.
5. Use illustrations – Using pictures and illustrations is an important method of teaching dyslexic children as text is the most difficult medium for them.
6. Use flashcards – Having students seeing the words with the pictures is a great tool for memorization.
These are only a few ideas to help anyone teaching dyslexic children. It may also be important to note that these children also have difficulty reading black on white.

Basics of Franchising

May 15th, 2012

Franchising is the practice of using another firm’s successful business model. For the franchiser, the franchise is an alternative to building ‘chain stores’ to distribute goods and avoid the need for investments and liability for a chain. The franchiser’s success depends on the success of the franchisees. The franchisee is said to have a greater incentive than a direct employee because he or she has a direct stake in the business.

Businesses for which franchises work best have one or several of the following characteristics:

  • A good track record of profitability
  • Ease of duplication
  • Detailed systems, processes and procedures
  • A unique or unusual concept
  • Broad geographic appeal
  • Relative ease of operation
  • Relatively inexpensive operation

As practiced in retailing, franchising offers franchisees the advantage of starting up business quickly based on a proven trademark, and immediate access to the tooling and infrastructure, as opposed to having to develop them.

Two important payments are made to a franchiser:

  1. A royalty for the trademark and
  2. Reimbursement for the training and advisory services given to the franchisee.

These two fees may be combined in a single ‘management’ fee.

Hundreds of franchisees fail each year. The most frequent causes: lack of funds, poor people skills, reluctance to follow the formula, a mismatch between franchisee and the business, and poor management.

A critical initial decision is picking a product you care about. Consider hiring a consultant to analyze whether you are a good fit with the business opportunity you are thinking about buying into. Among the most common mistakes new franchisees make is signing on before adequately researching the business. Study what it will take to run the business successfully. And be realistic. Owning a franchise is rarely a get-rich-quick scheme.

In Kenya franchises have been there, with the most known being in the fast food market. Kenchic a local company sells in wholesale to supermarkets and restaurants as well as in the Kenchic Inn franchises. They are now the local suppliers for KFC. Other food franchises in Kenya include well known brands from South Africa, which include Debonaires, Pizza inn, and Steers. America is the most franchised country in the world, but their many franchises have not diversified to the Africa market.

But late last in august, the first American franchise landed. KFC (Kentucky fried chicken) is a super-brand in the world, and finally got to Kenya, opening a much hyped branch at the junction shopping mall. Since then they have opened 3 new outlets bringing the total to four. The Chairman of KFC America has stated that they plan to open 15 new outlets in Kenya in the next 24 months.

Sub-Saharan Africa is seen as one of the last untapped, still-potentially-lucrative markets in the world. McDonald’s another great fast food franchise from America has been rumored to be considering an entry into East Africa as well, and other chains like it will be well on their way to capture this virgin market.

The Top Franchises Listed by Business Brokers | Idingsoft.com

May 15th, 2012

Like all issues in life, there are always checklist of the top this or that. Franchises are no different and can be put in checklist like most popular, range of cost and ease of purchase. Business brokers even have their own favorites to indicate prospective clients.

If a potential franchise purchaser is considering shopping for a franchise, then taking a look at rankings by numerous classes is sensible, as it can allow them to study an ideal deal by evaluating different franchises. The Web is a good place to study quite a bit from these checklist in a short quantity of time.

Types of franchises

There are a lot of different franchises in addition to the fast meals ones that most people are aware of just like the hamburger chains, the rooster franchises and the seafood places. There are a lot of different retail kind franchises, service franchises, trade kind franchises and tax prepares. In fact almost any enterprise kind you can think of has a franchise competitor. A few of these franchises have a really high price of success. Some might rely primarily on the person that buys it similar to a service business. If the proprietor is nice at prospecting and promoting their service they will be successful. It they don’t seem to be good at it they may not make it, as the franchise will not be properly sufficient recognized to herald sufficient customers. This accounts for the lower ranking of most of the franchises a person has never heard of and had no thought they even existed.

Ratings by cost of the franchise

A person should purchase a franchise for as low as a couple of thousand dollars and the value goes up from there to properly over a million dollars for a few of the title restaurants. The low cost franchises seem to be home primarily based and a single person operation. What many of them provide is only a business plan on the right way to do the business. This is usually a steep cost for a plan with no different help or help.

On the high finish you get coaching, on going help, a critical edge on being profitable as these franchises have a really high percentage of success.

Recognition of those high finish cost franchises also accounts for the truth that they promote on the upper finish of the range. The success price is high so they are popular.

Their reputation means the franchise company can get more cash for them than the lower cost franchises. It’s all about future success to the new proprietor and getting his investment back by way of profits.

Ease of buy scores

Low cost franchises are higher in the scores because it takes much less money to buy. Increased cost franchises could also be tougher to purchase until the client can arrange financing privately or by way of the franchise people. An investor group or a really properly off non-public social gathering normally buys the actually high worth franchises. Low cost franchises will promote on phrases as they’ve little additional cost in the franchise. The upper priced one will help an ideal deal in finding the money for a purchaser they really feel will do properly with the franchise. They have over time developed all types of finance help from lenders to investor groups. They’re actually eager about promoting to folks they think will likely be good franchise owners. They wish to have networks of profitable franchises. You can hire efficient virtual assistants at Myoutdesk.com.

Business brokers have a number of companies to choose from Companies brokers normally characterize sellers who have an present enterprise they want to sell. Their lists are various amongst all of the forms of companies at a variety of promoting prices. When a purchaser involves them they’ll show patrons companies that are in bother and ones that are prime examples of a profitable operation. In addition they have all forms of companies for sale, so the client is offered a selection of enterprise types. This could possibly be advantageous as the client may see one thing in the checklist that they have not considered and even considered.

The enterprise dealer if experienced can have a very good thought of the actual worth of the companies that he represents. It is rather doubtless skilled evaluators arrived on the promoting price. The costs have some fudge factor in-built, but they are nearer to the actual worth than a guess.

The good many decisions these brokers are in a position to show prospective patrons ought to work to the client’s benefit. The alternatives are many and of all forms of companies that could possibly be considered for purchase. This skill to look at all forms of companies on the same time and compare costs and potential investment return is without doubt one of the reasons that all patrons ought to no less than have a discussion with a enterprise dealer or two.

These conversations will cost nothing, but they can help the client make higher decisions between a startup franchise and an present business.

Discuss with different franchise homeowners

If in case you have narrowed the companies to certain franchises, it will be sensible to talk with homeowners of different comparable franchises. The data they will present will provide help to make a better resolution If you discover out what they like and do not like in regards to the franchise, this is glorious materials to think about. There may be nothing like being warned about areas of competition and attainable discontent in operating a franchise. At the least it provides you with areas to query with the franchise people. After the sale will not be the time to find out about problems you weren’t aware of and it definitely will not be the time to be surprised. You may also discover that there’s room for some negotiation on the franchise worth that was supposedly set in stone. Nothing is always locked in stone. Something that’s claimed to be company policy is just that. It is an arbitrative resolution and was not handed down from on high. Policies are modified on a regular basis inside companies. When you actually don’t just like the policy walk away and find a different deal.

Conclusion

Wanting on the scores of franchises by different criteria will give the client many ways to look at different franchise opportunities. Comparisons by different means help the client get a perspective on the enterprise they may get no different way. Taking a look at worth ranges and understanding what they actually imply is an eye opener to the client of a franchise. The fluff in the worth can be guessed at by evaluating different franchises. Additionally reputation and success appear to have a point of predictability.

Franchising to open up retail sector in 2014 — TalkVietnam

May 12th, 2012

HCM CITY — Franchising would become an indispensable business trend in Viet Nam as it would open up retail market further in 2014, lawyer Ho Huu Hoanh, director of the Viet Nam Franchising News Online (VietFranchise), said yesterday.

Speaking at a seminar in HCM City organised by the Viet Nam Trade Promotion Agency’s (Viettrade) HCM City Office, he said that the number of local entrepreneurs’ franchising activities was still low but was expected to grow in coming years.

Foreign commercial affairs, consultants and franchise associations are urging local retail and franchise players to consider Viet Nam a good market for franchising.

The franchising business model has brought benefits not only for franchisers but also for franchisees.

It is especially beneficial for small – and medium-size companies that want to start a new business in a short period of time with a modest amount of invested capital, but the promise of a stable income.

Franchisees can offer well-known brandname systems and receive training and technical transfer from franchisers.

However, the franchisers and franchisees need to identify the appropriate time to open a business and map out strategies to be successful in the market.

The franchising model is praised for its high effectiveness and low business failure.

Sean T Ngo, managing director of the Viet Nam Franchises Co Ltd said although most existing franchise operations in Viet Nam were in the fast food and beverage business, franchising has the potential to develop in other sectors such as education, healthcare, services and retail fashion.

According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, there are about 90 franchise systems in Viet Nam.

“The rapid economic development, plus a demographic composed of young and dynamic consumers, are the main reasons for foreign firms to seek franchises in the Vietnamese market, he said.

Franchising is a good opportunity for foreign businesses to set up a retail system in Viet Nam as the country has many retail opportunities, including a food and beverage retail sector valued estimated at $33.7 billion last year.

At a seminar, VIETRADE called for domestic businesses to participate in the International Franchise Expo 2012 in New York on June 15-17, where they can meet hundreds of franchise businesses and thousands of entrepreneurs and business owners worldwide in sectors such as F&B, hospitality, health, services, construction, automobiles and products for children.

At the seminar, companies can learn more about franchising and opportunities to expand their business locally or across borders as well as explore established foreign brands that are ready to enter the Vietnamese market. — VNS
